Police are appealing for information following the discovery of suspected stolen property.
The discovery was made when officers arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with the alleged theft of an item from a vehicle in Lilliesleaf.
The man was detained in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday) when police attended Hassendean Farm, At the time of his arrest officers recovered several items of suspected stolen property, including Stihl strimmers, chainsaws and hedge trimmers – all of which were stored in a parked van.
The 39-year-old man will appear at court tomorrow (Thursday).
PC Philip Moule, from Police Scotland, said: “We believe that the equipment may have been stolen from property in the Hawick area, although there is the potential that the items were stolen from elsewhere in the Scottish Borders.
“It may be the case that people do not know that their equipment has been stolen, and we would urge people to check their sheds and outbuildings to make sure their items are safe.
“Inquiries are ongoing, and we are working to identify any other victims, or indeed any witnesses who may have noticed suspicious activity around their property overnight.
“At the same time, we would urge people to ensure that their sheds and outbuildings are properly secured, in order to guard against theft.”
Anyone with any information should contact the police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
