A HAWICK rugby player has admitted assaulting another man to the danger of his life in a street attack.

Twenty-two-year-old Greg Anderson, of Heronhill Bank – who was part of the Greens team which won its own sevens tournament earlier this year – pleaded guilty to the offence at Selkirk Sheriff Court this morning (Tuesday).

He admitted punching the man on the head outside an Indian restaurant in Market Street, Galashiels, on November 30, causing him to fall to the ground to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

A not-guilty plea to attempting to pervert the course of justice was accepted by the Crown.

Sentence was deferred until September 30 for background reports.
