Police have launched a fresh appeal for information after four iron railings surrounding a historic monument were damaged.
It is believed the metalwork at the Leyden Monument on Denholm Green may have been damaged as far back as September, resulting in the structure missing a finial and coming loose from its holdings.
The estimated total repair costs are in excess of £800.
Inspector Carol Wood told the Hawick News: “The Leyden Monument is a much treasured local landmark and it goes without saying that we are very keen to trace whoever was involved in what appears to be an act of vandalism.
“Our investigation is now under way and as part of this ongoing effort officers have visited Denholm Primary School and highlighted the dangers of being near the railings, as they are unsafe.
“I ask anyone who can help with this investigation to call police immediately on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
