Police arrested a 72-year-old man for drink-driving on Thursday night.
The incident occurred on the High Street at around 11pm, when the man was spotted driving by members of the public after drinking in a local pub.
Police were informed and quickly stopped him before he could travel any great distance.
He was arrested and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
Chief Inspector Andrew McLean told the Hawick News: “The fact that this man saw fit to drive is outrageous and we thank the members of the public who informed us of his actions. This allowed us to take swift action to stop him.
“Our advice regarding drink-driving is simple: don’t risk it, don’t drink and drive. If you do drink and drive, it can have long-term repercussions for you, your family and your community.
“If you are going out for a drink, leave the car at home.”
