A man who had an outstanding shoplifting case against him was arrested on Boxing Day.
Darren Devlin, 22, of Trinity Street, appeared at a special sitting of Jedburgh JP Court on Saturday morning where he was fined £100 and ordered to pay £14.78 compensation to the Spar Shop in Dickson Street.
The court was told that at around 9pm on a September evening, Devlin walked into the shop and stole two bottles of alcohol totalling £14.78.
Defence lawyer Iain Burke said: “He was drunk at the time. He was looking for more alcohol and had no money.
“He now deeply regrets his actions.”
