Councillor retires from bank role

Local Councillor Watson McAteer officially retired from his position with the Royal Bank of Scotland last Friday and will now concentrate fully on his role as an elected member.

Speaking to the Hawick News this week, Mr McAteer, who admitted the last few weeks had been hectic, said: “I’m looking forward to getting involved and am keen to start working full time to support various initiatives which are ongoing. It’s a challenge but I can’t wait to be able to focus on what I was elected to do.”

Mr McAteer, who is an Independent councillor, won the Hawick and Denholm by-election in May.
