Hawick and Denholm councillors Watson McAteer and Stuart Marshall held what was described as a very constructive meeting with local MSP and Scottish Minister Paul Wheelhouse concerning the Boundary Commission’s proposals for Hawick, writes Colin Purvis.
Councillor McAteer said: “Paul Wheelhouse was very alive to the issues and implications falling out of the Boundary Commission’s proposals, specifically for those areas that have not been supportedby Scottish Borders Council.
“He has promised to contact the ministers with specific boundary responsibilities to try and enable a meeting where we can make our case for Denholm, Bonchester, Chesters and the rest of our ward area including Hornshole.
Councillor Marshall added: “It was a very worthwhile meeting and Paul is clearly very aware of the anguish these completely unnecessary changes are having on our town and area.
“We discussed how we could approach the commission and make the case for retaining the current Hawick wards, recognising that they work very well and there is no need for change.”
