HAWICK Community Council is seeking a meeting with the police to discuss the town’s CCTV camera system.
At their monthly meeting on Tuesday night Community Councillor Isobel Scott queried the technology, whilst voicing her concerns about regular damage being caused to plants on the High Street.
She stated: “There was supposed to be funding made available as part of Streetcape to update the cameras, but that hasn’t happened. I think it is an issue due the level of vandalism we are getting with our planters at the Horse and outside Boots.”
Councillor George Turnbull vowed to find out if any funding had been made available to modernise the cameras.
However, it was also agreed to contact the police and request a presentation about the cameras and their operation.
But after being contacted by the Hawick News, a police spokesman said: “All of Hawick’s CCTV cameras are working properly, and the images are relayed back to the police station which is manned 24-hours a day, providing the facility for them to be monitored.”
