Community council chair’s Christmas message

With 2014 drawing to a close and a new year set to begin, for me it is well worth highlighting the positives of the community council over the past 12 months. We were delighted this year to win the town category in the Floral Gateway, and the Hawick in Bloom Group, all volunteers, deserve recognition for all their hard work.

By the spring of 2015 we hope that the new walkway around Williestruther Loch will be completed, courtesy of our successful bid and funding from SSE.

It has been a busy time for the Community Council, what with setting up a group to deal with issues relating to the High Street and also two newer projects: for catering facilities for the park during the renovation work and, in conjunction with Burnfoot Community Council, the provision of a remembrance garden in Wilton Cemetery.

Possibly our greatest success, though, was again the Christmas parade, with so many participants and spectators alike.

It is well worth remembering that all of this work is done by a committee of volunteers whose only wish is to improve the town.

This is a time for family and friends to get together, but let’s spare a thought for those less fortunate and those spending Christmas alone. I wish everyone a very merry Christmas and
happy New Year.
