Hawick Flood Group has been given the seal of approval by the Scottish Government’s Minister for Environment and Climate Change.

The local volunteers met with the SNP MSP Paul Wheelhouse last week during the party’s summer cabinet visit to the town, and the politician was full of praise for the project.

He said: “It’s very encouraging to see individuals and community groups coming together and realising the potential for self-help to protect their homes and areas like Hawick, and I particularly welcome their focus on providing support to the most vulnerable in the community, and encourage individuals and businesses to engage with and support their efforts.”

Flood Group chairman Stuart Marshall added: “I was delighted that Mr Wheelhouse took the time to visit the flood group, and he was very impressed with how organised we seem to be.”
