BURNFOOT is celebrating after being awarded almost £60,000 from the Big Lottery Fund in Scotland.
The development grant of £56,670 has been made to Burnfoot Community Futures which will allow them to engage a design team and take forward their long held plans to acquire and develop the derelict former Roadhouse pub.
On the site, Burnfoot Community Futures will create their very own Community Hub containing café, function room, childcare facility, room rental spaces, community garden and soft playarea. The grant will also fund a part time development worker.
Burnfoot Community Futures chairperson, Zoe Hall said: “The community of Burnfoot has worked very hard over the last five years to realise our dream of owning and operating our very own Community Hub. This amazing support from the Big Lottery Fund will help us take a very significant step forward.
“By obtaining professional designs and planning permission we will be in the best position to buy the site and achieve the next stage of full funding to actually create the Hub. Such an award provides us with real confidence to look to the future, achieve our project and to, most importantly, improve community well being, skills, employment, training and volunteering.
“Our sincere thanks go to the Big Lottery Fund and to the many people who have supported us to this stage”.
