JUST two weeks after stressing the Martin’s Bridge works would be completed on schedule, Scottish Borders Council has revealed that the programme has been extended by three weeks.
An SBC spokesperson said last month: “The Martin’s Bridge works are running on programme.”
However, some 14 days later and the local authority has announced the three-week extension.
Part of the project to strengthen and refurbish the structure involves re-routing some water pipes which run across the bridge, for which specialist parts are being sourced from abroad.
A Scottish Water spokesman said: “We have been sourcing suitable fittings for this work, which will be completed as soon as possible.”
This work, together with an additional week for reinstatement work, means that the B711 will remain closed until July 22.
