“THE Poppy Appeal is more relevant now than it has ever been.”
Those were the words of Royal British Legion (Scotland) area organiser for Hawick and District, Brian McLeod, following the recent launch of this year’s Poppy Scotland Appeal in the Scottish Parliament.
Mr McLeod, who attended the event, said: “The more money we get, the more we can help. The appeal has been ongoing for many years, but the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan are the big ones just now.
“We need the funds to look after our injured service personnel.”
Among the politicians at the event was Hawick MSP John Lamont. He added: “Wearing a poppy may seem like a small act of personal remembrance but it is a powerful, collective symbol of our respect for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.”
