Councillors Watson McAteer and Stuart Marshall met nationalist MP Calum Kerr yesterday (Thursday) to discuss the Boundary Commission proposals.

Having just learned that the commission has agreed to amend its original submission to take account of Scottish Borders Council’s amendment to include Newcastleton tothe exclusion of Denholm, Bonchester and area, the local councillors were keen to seek the MP’s support for their constituents.

Councillor McAteer said: “It was good to meet Calum and to highlight how those in the Denholm and surrounding area are feeling completely let down by the council who have ignored their wishes. These communities remain very closely linked to Hawick and have no wish to be represented by Jedburgh councillors.”

Councillor Marshall added: “Calum was very helpful and is fully aware of the concerns of the Denholm and Bonchester folk and promised to raise this at parliamentary level.”
