Bogie race day accelerates its appeal

The organisers of Saturday’s Border Bogie competition have hailed the 2012 event as the “best ever”.

Tony Lockey, co-founder of the annual series of kart races in Denholm, says soaring temperatures and a record high number of entrants contributed to “a real family occasion” in the village.

Local businesses were boosted as crowds flocked from all over the UK to participate in the races for adults and children, held at the same time as Denholm’s second-ever May Fair, which is set to become an annual fixture in the village calendar.

“They came from all over Britain to take part,” said organiser Mr Lockey. “I had so many people saying that this was the best one – they said it was phenomenal.”

Reverend Douglas Nicol, who helped set up the village’s May fair, said: “The weather was perfect and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.”
