THE final notes are being played out in preparation for the Vision 2014 Big Sing.
The event, on the Monday before the Common-Riding, will see pupils from all of the town and surrounding area’s schools converge on Mansfield Park for a musical extravaganza.
Featuring Scocha, the PSA Male Voice Choir, Hawick Amateur Operatic Society and the High School Choir, led by head of music Jim Letham, over 1,400 kids will join in with a selection of Common-Riding favourites and other songs.
It is a welcome addition to Cornet Michael Davidson’s calendar and will also include a huge Olympic-style artistic display – which is being kept a closely guarded secret – within the stand at the rugby ground.
Sub-committee members Judith Murray and Lesley Fraser are working with all primary six pupils today (Friday) in the Heart of Hawick to explain the display and go over the chosen Common-Riding songs - Up wi’ Auld Hawick, Bonnie Banner Blue and Teribus. It will then be up to them to explain the event to their schools via assemblies.
Mr Letham will also be visiting all the primary schools to learn a brand new High School inspired Common-Riding song, composed by himself, with words from high school S4 pupil Kerr Hartop.
