Assurances over village road safety concerns

Scottish Borders Council has moved to quell fears over road safety at a new housing development on the outskirts of Denholm, writes Jason Marshall.

Eildon Housing Association is building eight properties at the top of Jedward Terrace, and the village’s community council is concerned about motorists driving too fast when coming into Denholm before turning off on the access road for the new scheme.

Ward councillor Watson McAteer took up the issue with the local authority, and has received assurances that the 30mph speed limit signs at the east end of the village will be moved eastwards along the A698 to increase the amount of time drivers have to slow down on the approach to the new development; and that adequate visual clearance will be provided at the access road.

It is hoped the work will be carried out before the spring.
