A HAWICK man appeared from custody on Monday at Selkirk Sheriff Court and denied assaulting a male in the town last Thursday.
Sean Goodfellow, 22, of Myreslawgreen, pleaded not guilty to assaulting another man. He is accused of seizing hold of him, punching him to the face, pushing him to the ground and then punching him twice on the face.
The offence is alleged to have taken place in Rosebank Road in the early hours of last Thursday morning.
During the hearing the Crown opposed an application for bail due to Goodfellow’s record and that he still had an unexpired prison sentence to serve.
But defence lawyer Rhona McLeod said her client had a full-time job in removals which he would lose if he was remanded in custody.
Goodfellow was released on bail on the condition that he does not contact the alleged victim.
A trial date was fixed for Jedburgh Sheriff Court on September 5.
