Argument led to assault on ex-partner

A man was ordered to pay £180 compensation to his former partner after assaulting her.

Michael Carruthers, 26, of Silverbuthall Road, admitted pushing the woman on the body, causing her to fall to the ground to her injury, in Teviot Crescent, on November 20.

Procurator fiscal Morag McLintock told Jedburgh Sheriff Court that Carruthers had met his ex-partner in the early hours of the morning, outside a local nightclub, and an argument developed between the two of them.

“Police, in an unmarked police car, turned their vehicle around after they saw them having a heated argument, and saw the accused push her, which knocked her over,” explained Ms McLintock.

The woman suffered a bleeding nose.

Defence solicitor Phil Templeton said the relationship had ended some time before, and the pair had been out separately when they encountered each other.
