Big-hearted local riders are gearing up to take part in the annual sponsored ride in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support on May 3.
Now in its fifth year, the event has raised in excess of £12,000. The ride-out, which attracted 70 followers last year, a popular precursor to the Common-Riding, leaves the Common Haugh at 10am for the journey to the Woll via Wiltonburn, Calaburn, Tandlaw and Drinkstone Hill, arriving at Ashkirk at noon. The return leg to Hawick leaves the Woll at 2pm via Shiels wood, Threephead Hill, Blawearie, Calaburn and Drinkstone, arriving in the Common Haugh around 4pm. Free soup and sandwiches will be available to riders taking part and the event will be marshalled and first aid will be on hand. Sponsorship forms are available from Harbro in Commercial Road and online donations can be made at Just Giving. Riders should have adequate personal and third party insurance and must ensure the competency of themselves and their mounts and to wear protective headgear.
