This weekend sees the opening of the season at Whitrope (on the Newcastleton road out of Hawick).
The exhibition has been extensively revised detailing the development and demise of the former Waverley Route. There will be a guide on hand to make sure visitors see everything, while the buffet car has been refurbished to offer more space. A steam locomotive may even be heard passing while a cuppa is being enjoyed!
The rail bus will be running again with the permission of the newly-installed signal at the platform. Work on the line is continuing at a pace and it is hoped that the running line will soon be extended. The path from the car park has been partly upgraded as well.
Previous visitors will see other changes and please note that the site will be open during the summer on Sundays only (including the exhibition, buffet and train rides). There will be whole weekend opening occasionally and these dates will be available soon.
Opening hours are 10am to 4.30pm on Sundays, with coffee and tea available. Townsfolk can be assured of a warm welcome.
