THE ownership issues surrounding the derelict lock-ups behind the shops at Kenilworth Avenue have been branded “disgusting”.

A wrangle remains between Scottish Borders Council and Scottish Borders Housing Association to find out who the area belongs to.

But as discussions continue, Burnfoot Community Council heard that the area continues to fall into a state of disrepair.

Vice-chairman Jamie Batten said: “It’s a gang hut and rubbish dump inside. The kids have kicked the walls down, but what happens when the roof falls down on them?

“If officials from both organisations don’t pull their fingers out then there’s going to be big trouble.”

Local councillor Stuart Marshall urged members to write to SBC’s enforcement officer Alan Gueldner and make their disgust known.

He said: “It’s absolutely disgusting and I know that the public are totally sick of it.”
