Spanish paradise Le Manga calls for good sport Kyle

A sport and exercise student from Hawick has been chosen to attend a six-week work placement at the luxury five-star La Manga Club in Spain.

Borders College student Kyle Douglas has spoken of his delight at being selected to temporarily join the team at the renowned golf resort near Cartagena in Murcia, where the 19-year old Teri will be able to combine his love of sport with the chance of a lifetime.

Kyle, of Heronhill Crescent, told the Hawick News: “Every year the college gives two people the chance to go to Spain on placement, and this year I was the first one they picked after I applied and was interviewed.”

He went on: “It is so overwhelming and I am obviously nervous, because I have never even been abroad before, but I am really looking forward to it. For someone as young as me I know it’s a great opportunity and will hopefully give me a few more choices in the future.”

Kyle qualified as a gym instructor last year and is set to complete Level 3 in sport and exercise, with a view to returning in September to start an HND. And although the local Wetherspoons worker says he knows very little about what awaits him when he flies out on June 13, he added: “Myself and another guy from my class will will be living in staff accommodation and working in the gym.”

The club’s website states: “La Manga Club lives and breathes sport. Our sporting spirit, coupled with our world class sports and professional training facilities and our privileged setting, make La Manga Club truly one of a kind.”

And indeed local businessman Steve Porter, of Porter’s Porches and Conservatories, was so impressed by Kyle’s achievement that he agreed to sponsor him to the tune of £200. This enabled Kyle was able to buy shorts and other gym gear to wear during his stay.
