HUNDREDS of bikers and friends of the late Steve Hislop are expected to attend Sunday’s memorial run to mark the tenth anniversary of his death.
And this year the annual run will honour the superbike champion by visiting places with a special connection to the local hero. Organiser Wendy Oliver said: “This route is poignant as it’s the 10th anniversary of the accident, and we will be travelling some of Steven’s favourite roads. We will pass his father Sandy’s joinery workshop at Southdean, the cemetery where Sandy, Garry and Steve are buried, the Hislop family home and through Bonchester Bridge where Steven, Garry and Margaret ran the pub, finishing in Denholm where he lived and worked.”
The run leaves Denholm Green at 10.30am, travelling through Hawick to Langholm, Longtown, Brampton, Greenhead and Chollerford, before departing at 1pm for the Carter Bar. The ride is expected at Southdean at 1.50pm, and Haughhead junction for 2.10pm for the lap around Hawick, before returning to Denholm for 2.30pm. Wendy added: “Some of the best spectator places this year, not including Hawick High Street, have got to be seeing us come over the Carter Bar, Bonchester Heights or the straight at Ashybank.”
