THERE can be few events all over the world which can boast such a huge array of quality entertainers as the Callants Club smoker last Friday night.
From a packed town hall there were 26 of the town’s finest, spanning the generations, who performed various Common-Riding songs or poems as the Club welcomed its latest member in 22-year-old Cornet Ross Nichol.
Under the chairmanship of Club president Gerald Adams, it was an occasion befitting such a celebration and one, he stressed, Ross was a well worthy recipient of.
In his Toast to the Cornet, he said: “You have all the attributes, all the qualities, all the skills to lead us as we celebrate our traditions and our heritage.”
