HAWICK is set to host its first youth international dance festival this summer under the name of “Teries in Tartan”.
The local group is preparing to welcome visitors from Salzkotten in Germany, and Poznan in Poland, as part of a follow-up to a successful visit by the Teries last year.
The group, put together by Cath Elliott-Walker, enjoyed a trip to Germany where members, all aged between 10-16, stayed with families and enjoyed a week and impressive programme of Scottish dance, music and song.
“The grpup is hoping to show their visitors the same level of hospitality as they received in Germany and are looking to host the young people with Hawick families. While they have a large number of offers of accommodation they are still looking for a few more and would welcome contact from anyone interested in getting involved”, Cath said.
The Festival will run from Wednesday August 10-13, with the groups arriving on the Tuesday evening. During their stay they will be performing at various venues around the town, and will be putting on a special evening performance on Friday 12, in the Auld Baths.
The group are holding a fund-raising coffee morning in Trinity Church Hall tomorrow, where there will be the usual selection of stalls including cake and candy, bric a brac and plants.
Cath added: “The group very much hope that local folk will support them both at the coffee morning and also by coming out to attend the various performances and concerts during the festival itself.”
Tickets will be on sale nearer the time and anyone seeking information is welcome to contact Cath on 372962.
