HAWICK Operatic Society members and friends danced into history’s next act on Saturday night at a special Centenary Ball.

Around 110 people, comprising cast members, production, backstage, other society’s members and representatives from the National Operative and Dramatic Association, joined the celebrations in the town hall to mark a century in Hawick.

With seasoned performer Ian Brotherstone from Lauder the guest speaker, Provost Zandra Elliot saying Grace before fine fare served by Deborah Brown, then a Grand March, followed by The Strangers, the society’s first ball in recent memory has been hailed a success. Stalwart Shelagh Duncan said: “It was a great night, everyone really enjoyed themselves.”

The celebrations will continue with a centenary concert in September, and museum exhibition in October.
