THE chairman of Hawick Summer Festival has described this year’s brand new opening day as a “complete success”.
The launching of 1,000 balloons, a special dance display as part of the Hawick Youth International Dance Festival, and children’s fun workout, were all part of the revamped start to the event at Trinity Gardens on Saturday – and the further addition of a new open day at the leisure centre, which was packed for the rest of afternoon, has thrilled organisers.
Chairman Raymond Wood told the Hawick News: “The festival couldn’t have got off to a better start on Saturday, it was a complete success. We wanted to try something different and it certainly worked.
“The balloons gave the wow factor, the dancing display pulled the crowds in and our wish to help boost the leisure centre certainly paid off as it was really busy.”
He added: “We definitely made the right decision to shake things up this year.”
