A FOOD court is to be created at Hawick Moor for this year’s Common-Riding.

And there is also expected to be a whole new range of stalls for the big weekend.

The franchise for the food and stalls has been taken on by Gillian Morgan and Lesley Johnson, who ran the successful arts and crafts marquee at last year’s Common-Riding.

Already signed up are the New Delhi Bar & Restaurant, Lindsay Grieve, Kenny Grieve’s burger van and a van from Phil Macari in Galashiels. There is also the promise of ice-cream, candyfloss and popcorn.

Gillian said: “It’s a chance perhaps not to make as many of those sandwiches which probably feed the town’s bird population on the Sunday after the Common-Riding!”

Among the stalls there will be handmade jewellery, bags, homemade fudge and tablet, soap and candles, Indian head massage and reflexology as well as a clairvoyant.

Gillian added: “This year we hope people will see more changes at the Moor after the success of the arts and crafts marquee last year. The response to that has given us great enthusiasm to make changes to benefit the townspeople and visitors.”
