DARYL Brown is building himself quite a reputation after winning the senior bricklaying competition at the Scottish Skillbuild event, writes Gavin Gibbon.

He was one of eight talented students from the brickwork, carpentry and joinery and painting and decorating department at Borders College who travelled to South Lanarkshire College to take part in the competition.

And Daryl, who has come through from the full-time NPA Brickwork class and now works with JMS Harkin in Jedburgh, scooped the top award.

He will now go forward to compete in the national final in September in Leeds with the chance to challenge for a place on the WorldSkills UK team and progress to compete at the 2012 WorldSkills competition.
