HAWICK Summer Festival gets under way tomorrow and the full programme for the 2012 event is as follows:

Saturday, August 18 - Trinity Church, 10am to 3pm: Festival of Flowers. Coffees 10am until noon; High Teas noon until 3pm; plus the usual stalls.

11.30am: Shields Dance Group performance in Trinity Gardens.

Noon: Flower Princess Ellie Hatton and her attendants, Elyssa Hope and Rhianna Adams, will arrive at Trinity Gardens to be greeted by Cornet Ross Nichol and his Lass Gillian Smith, who will present gifts to the girls.

12.15 pm: Launch of Balloon Race from Trinity Gardens, followed by children’s fun fitness workout led by TLC staff.

1pm: Teviotdale Leisure Centre Open Day. ‘We are the Champions’ event in pool, followed by 3pm until 4pm free inflatable time.

7.30pm: Hootenanny Concert. Performances by Rocking Horse, and Circuit Breakers, with Special Guests including 3D, Sarah Jane Adams, Lois Niblo, Kim Millar, Megan Kilpatrick, Callum Merritt and Evella. Tickets £5 from Teviotdale Leisure Centre, Dobbie & Michie, Thinkfitness and Brydon’s Bakery.

Sunday, August 19 - 9am: Challenge Hawick Walk. Join Ian Landles and Thinkfitness staff and raise money for local charities by completing one, two or three stages. All fitness levels catered for, so no excuse! Route and entry details will be announced nearer the date.

9am: Cycling – Ken Laidlaw Sportif. Leaving from Mansfield Park, this covers a distance of 168.6 km. (105 miles), but with alternative routes of 52 miles and 22 miles. Contact Hamish Smith at 01450 372294 for details.

Monday, August 20 - 6pm: Guided Walk – Haig’s Hike. Meet at Common Haugh – Free - Stout shoes - No dogs.

7.30pm: Hawick Pictorial 1972. Hawick Film & Video Group, 8 Croft Road. Adults £3, Children £1.50

Tuesday, August 21 - From 5pm: Indian Night at Shebab Tandoori – Four courses for £11.99. Booking advisable on 01450 379191.

6.30pm: Archaeological Society Walk. Free. Dander around the Wellogate with Ian Landles and Gordon McDonald. Meet at the Cemetery Gates. Stout shoes required. No dogs.

7.30pm: Hawick Pictorial 1972. Hawick Film & Video Group, 8 Croft Road. Adults £3, Children £1.50.

Wednesday, August 22 - 6pm: Guided Walk – Tam’s Trek. Meet at Common Haugh – Free - Stout shoes - No dogs.

From 7.30pm: Pasta Night at Sergio’s Restaurant - eating as much pasta as you can for £9.50. Booking advisable on 01450 370094.

7.30pm: Hawick Sings at Burns Club. Runs every Wednesday evening throughout the summer.

Thursday, August 23 - 6pm until 8pm: Hawick Tennis Club ‘Come & Try’ event at Wilton Park. Bring own trainers but rackets, balls, mini-nets and coaching provided.

From 6.30pm: Food Night at Tower Inn. Enjoy a tasty evening at the Tower Inn, 8 High Street. Booking advisable on 01450 370868.

8pm: Party on the Pitch Weekend. Start the party weekend off at the Border Club with live music from the Curly Turtles. Entry by donation in aid of Artbeat Studio. Open to all.

Saturday, August 25 - 10am until 12noon: Hymnathon. Your chance to listen to your favourite hymn at Hawick Congregational Church. Contact Geraldine Strickland at 01835 830 650 or log on to church website at www.rocon.moonfruit.com

1pm until 8.30pm: Party on the Pitch. Listen to Under the Covers, Joe Mangels, Stevie T Band, Dark Horse and Chris Tame at Buccleuch Park. Tickets priced at £7 (before Friday 24th), £10 for adults on the day, £5 for High School (must show Young Scot card), free to Primary School pupils. Available in advance from Teviotdale Leisure Centre, Dobbie & Michie. Thinkfitness and Brydon’s Bakery.

No alcohol admitted – strictly enforced. Beer Tent has pub prices. Bouncy Castle, Bungee runs, Sumo suits, TLC dance mats, Face Painting, Special Effects make-up, lides, rodeo bull, burger van, ice-cream van.

Sunday, August 26 - 9am: Tam & Haig’s Hike

Meet at Cricket Club with packed lunch, stout shoes, appropriate clothing, but no dogs. £2 per person payable on the day. Cars required to travel to Stobs Camp.

Route: along the railway to Shankend Viaduct then via Stennieshope, Hawkhass, Peelbraehope, Penchrise, Barnes Loch and return to Stobs. Approx. 4.5 hours walk, returning to Cricket Club for 3pm where walk participants will be treated to tea or coffee and cream scones.

1pm: Thoosand Pound Drop. In the Cricket Club, admission £2. Ian Landles will give at least three pairs of Weel Kent Faces the chance to win £1000 each for nominated local charities.

2pm: until 4pm: Walk in the Park. A free and fun afternoon centred on Hawick Museum.

3pm: Final of the Weel Kent Face competition at Hawick Cricket Club. Winner announced at 4pm.
