AN inter-schools cross country championships is being held by Teviotdale Harriers.
The event, on February 24, is open to all primary six and seven pupils from schools in the Teviot and Liddesdale learning community.
Starting and finishing at the museum, it will see the youngsters taking on a route around the park – roughly 2,000m in length – with a team trophy and individual medals up for grabs.
Club president Rob Halliday told the Hawick News: “It’s just about trying to get kids out running. Getting them to enjoy it and see that there are other sports in the town.”
There will be a separate race for boys and girls.
Coaches and club members have been round the schools providing taster sessions ahead of the big day.
Mr Halliday added: “All the kids seem really enthusiastic about the whole thing and it is hoped this could possibly become an annual event.”
