In what has been a nightmare start to their Border Amateur ‘A’ Division campaign, Waverley nosedived to another defeat.

Bryan Lugton put West Barns on the winning trail by notching the only goal of the first half when beating Waverley keeper Kerr Brown with a header.

After Neil Anderson had stretched the visitors’ lead, Star keeper Andrew Thorburn thwarted Waverley in pulling off two tip-top saves from Jordan Yardley.

Six minutes from the end, Waverley fell further behind when Hugh Masters netted for West Barns.

The Wilton Lodge Park side’s day of woe was not quite over, though, for Star went on to score a further twice with strikes from Cameron McIntyre and Kevin Skelton.

Waverley’s Jason Inglis said of his side’s performance: “We had some chances but we didn’t take them.

“Overall, we just didn’t play well at all. It’s as simple as that.”
