Waverley tumbled to their third defeat in four outings.

The Wilton Lodge Park side can have no qualms about the result in Saturday’s Border Amateur ‘A’ Division match as they were simply beaten by a better side. The Teries did, however, get off to an encouraging start in taking the lead through a Jordan Yardley counter.

A good footballing Fairydean Rovers outfit soon got an equaliser, though, and stuck away two more goals before the interval.

Gala kept their foot on the gas and Waverley fell into further arrears in the early part of the second half. Waverley then showed what they had to offer with an excellent goal from Declan Hogg who beat the home keeper all the way with a superbly-hit free-kick. Not long afterwards, Hogg came close to repeating his goal scoring act with another free-kick which cannoned off the bar.

Gala hit back to wrap matters up by notching a fifth.

Waverley’s Jason Inglis said of the game: “Gala have a few players with East of Scotland League football experience in their team and are a good side. They were much better than us on the day and deserved their win.”
