TEENAGE mountain bike racer Corey Watson notched a highly creditable sixth place in a 300-strong field in the final stage of the British Downhill Series, in Bringewood, Shropshire, on Sunday.

Corey’s dad Mark told the Hawick News: “In his qualifying round he got 2:26 and then in his race run he got 2:23. They were all really fast boys.

“He also came in sixth overall for the full series. He didn’t get on the podium but he was still happy with that. The other boys were really good local lads, so he had stiff competition.”

Corey, 13, is back in action in the Scottish Downhill Association race in Fort William in two weeks’ time.
