TEVIOTDALE ASC members Donald Gray and Jessica Wilcox have both been selected to represent Scotland South and East in this year’s UK School Games.

The pair are the only two swimmers from the Borders to be selected for the event, which will be held in Sheffield at the beginning of September.

And 15-year-old Jessica, who competed at the Games in Sunderland last year, admitted she can’t wait.

She said: “I am ecstatic to have been selected.

“The style of the Games is like that of the Olympics; it is a multi sport event with an opening and closing ceremony.

“The events are currently being decided amongst the selected team but I’m certain it will be a freestyle sprint event.”

Meanwhile, Donald’s call-up is a further highlight in what has already been an incredibly successful year for the teenager.

The third-year pupil, who suffers from spina bifida, claimed a hat-trick of medals at the DSE National Junior Disability Swimming Championships in Sheffield earlier this year.
