Stuart set for South African challenge

STUART Hogg is set to face the mighty South Africa in the opening round of the IRB Junior World Championships in Italy.

Hogg and his Scottish team-mates warmed up for the match with a narrow 19-7 defeat against Australia last week.

But he is confident that encounter will stand them in good stead against the Springboks, followed by games against England and Ireland.

He said: “The Aussies were very skilful and played the game at an unbelievable tempo. Everything was quick and done accurately but we matched them in all areas which was pleasing for us.

“Hopefully everything we’ve practised will come into play and we’ll pull of a result.”

An absent Teri, Hogg’s thoughts were definitely flying homeward this week.

He added: “I just want to wish everybody a great Common-Riding and say all the best to Cornet Davidson and ‘Fither’ Nichol.”
