HAWICK Wanderers continued their stunning run of success on Tuesday night as they won the Melrose Wasps Sevens.
The Volunteer Park outfit brought in Grant Huggan and Andrew Ford as players from the winning weekend squad at Gala Wanderers Sevens were rested.
But they showed no weakness as they demolished opponents from the opening tie to the last whistle.
Jed Thistle ‘B’ were their first victims as the Wands cruised to a 40-0 victory. That was followed by a 38-5 win over a Presidents’ VII in the second round.
Into the semi-final and the Wands were up against the hosts, but they provided no problems as the Hawick lads ran out 35-7 victors to book a place in the final against Selkirk.
And their top form continued in a one-sided affair that they clinched by a comfortable 40 points to 12 margin.
Coach Jim Hay said: “The team have a real hunger and desire which is great to see.”
With just two tournaments left – at Selkirk tomorrow and then Jed next Saturday – the Wands look certainties to add to their trophy haul by claiming the Kings of the Sevens title.
