TERI teenager Lisa Thomson scored all the points for the South Barbarians but it wasn’t enough as they fell at the final hurdle on Brewin Dolphin day at Murrayfield, losing the Under-15 girls cup final to Grantown Grammar 45-29.
Thomson played superbly, scoring five tries and kicking two conversions
The South side included players from Langholm, Hawick, Selkirk and Melrose, along with some from Murrayfield Wanderers.
It was a closely contested final which was in the balance up to the final minutes with the South side only trailing by two points, but the team was hit by injuries and Grantown ran in two late tries to win.
The South began strongly and took the game to the opposition with some powerful running and soon opened the scoring when Hawick teenager Lisa Thomson ran out of her own 22 and side stepped two defenders then dashed away for a great try, which she also converted.
Grantown’s points came from their captain Aliesha Brown (2), Sael Chisholm-Massheder, Lesley Davis, Ailsa Hepburn, Rhona Davis and Carla Sermanni, and Megan Murray added three conversions.
Aliesha Brown was selected player of the tournament for her two tries and strong running, but Thomson must have been a strong challenger for the honour.
All the South girls gave their best and could not be faulted for commitment and effort.
