After seven weeks of pre-season training, Edinburgh Rugby’s Teri star, Rory Sutherland, is relishing the chance to finally get some match action.
Sutherland is set to pull on his boots for Friday night’s warm-up encounter with Romania at The Greenyards, and he’s expecting a close-quarters battle with the world number 17-ranked outfit.
“No one is going to be surprised by how Romania play this weekend,” he said. “They are a physical, abrasive team who love to keep the battle in the forwards. They might throw it wide a couple of times but overall the boys are expecting a physical, ground-and-pound test.
“It will be our first really competitive contest before the start of the new Pro12 season. We’ve been working hard for almost seven weeks now on a lot of fitness and skills work, which does get draining, so to get to travel down to the Borders and play a side who will be playing in the World Cup, it’s going to be a test we are looking forward to.”
Sutherland added: “The bottom line is I know I am not the only one who looking forward to Friday because it’s going to be something different. Getting to play in the Borders is always special. In front of our home fans on a great pitch like The Greenyards, it should be a great evening of rugby.”
