Hawick YM kick-off a double header of pre-season friendlies with a match at Berwick, this afternoon (Saturday), as the club aims to make a successful start under new head coach Rupeni Ragia, writes Alexander McLeman.
In what will be Ragia’s first competitive fixture as head coach of the Mansfield Haugh outfit, the Fijian has set his side a target of two friendly wins against Berwick and Duns before they get down to business against Dalizel in the BT Scottish Cup. “We’re looking forward to having a competitive run-out so we can see where we are physically and mentally before the big games come,” said Ragia this week.
“We have Berwick this weekend, then Duns to follow, before we start the new season against Dalizel in the cup and RHC in the league and we are targeting two good performances to get us winning early.”
The Redskins finished bottom of then RBS Championship Division B last season, winning twice during a campaign dogged by a lack of players, but Ragia hopes any lingering issues have been resolved as the club aims to move on.
“It’s been a good pre-season so far with the group but there is still a long way to go with a long season ahead of us.
“After last season it was difficult for various reasons but what we have done this pre-season it all looks to be in the past now and the club has moved on.”
