THE Royal Blues kicked off their season with a comprehensive victory – and with most of last season’s regulars back in the fold and a good sprinkling of young newcomers – things don’t look too bad for the coming season.

Play was pretty even early on and it was Linden who broke the deadlock with a cracker of a try from Nathan Murray, who was released by a superbly timed pass from Steven Bouglas, before sprinting 70 yards to the line. Stuart Renwick added the conversion.

A chip kick through from Renwick then saw Bouglas pounce to score, and soon after the latter fed Murray for the next touchdown following good work by Gary Wardle and Terry Skeet. Kelso replied with a try, but loose play by the hosts on their line resulted in Graeme Colville charging over for the score. Renwick again kicked the extras.

Linden were back on the charge and another chip kick from Renwick saw Murray win the race to touch down. Bouglas kept up the pressure, stealing possession before rounding the Kelso defence for a score which was converted by Stirling. Kelso completed the scoring with a converted try of their own.

This was a great result for Linden and special mention to the new young recruits – Sean Fairbairn, Rory Hamilton, Will Barker, Bradley Mercer and Connor Gracie – all of whom put in solid performances.
