Rory Hutton was thrilled to be a part of such an accomplished Hawick performance against Ayr and hopes the win can go some way to diffusing any talk of relegation, writes Alexander McLeman.
Three first-half tries helped propel the Greens towards their fourth win in six games and establish some distance between themselves and the relegation zone.
“We had an explosive start, putting healthy points on the board,” said Hutton, who went on to imply that even better performances could be around the corner.
“The forwards put in a big performance for us, showing guts and determination against a good quality side in Ayr who have some big lads. They put in a massive shift, building a platform for us to play fast, flowing rugby, which caught them early.
“It was a perfect result for us – all the lads are delighted with the win after missing out on a few this season. We took our opportunities and hopefully the result will put to bed any talk of relegation.
“We gave away a couple of soft tries near the end of the first half but we kept them in line for most of the game. It is a big boost for us but it won’t be the last as there is still more this team can give.”
