STUART Hogg has been included in Scotland’s 36-man squad for the opening two matches of the 6 Nations campaign.
The 19-year-old, who has represented his country at Under-17, 18 and 20 levels, is one of six uncapped players called up by coach Andy Robinson for the matches against England and Wales. “I got the call on Wednesday night but it hasn’t sunk in yet. It will be a dream come true if I am given the chance to play for Scotland”, he said.
It caps a momentous week for the teenager who has also signed a three-and-a-half year contract with Glasgow Warriors. He told the Hawick News: “Obviously I’m delighted to have signed a new contract at Glasgow. We’re doing well just now and made some great signings in the last couple of months with some great internationals coming to the club. It didn’t take a lot of time to think about the contract, I put pen to paper as soon as I could and I’m chuffed with it.”
Hogg made his Glasgow debut last February against the Dragons and has now played 17 times for the Warriors, scoring two tries.
He added: “To get a contract is great and it reflects that I must be doing something right.”
Hogg celebrated his new contract by helping Glasgow to victory over Edinburgh in the 1872 Derby at Firhill on New Year’s Day. Deployed at outside centre he said: “I haven’t played there since I was at Hawick so I was a bit nervous about that but things seemed to have gone reasonably well.”
