Clubs from the Borders and Edinburgh will turn out to compete in a variety of age groups at the annual Hawick RFC mini rugby tournament this Sunday at Mansfield Park, writes Alexander McLeman.
Ten teams and more than 100 players from across the Borders are expected at the event, which is being hosted at both Mansfield Park and Hawick YM’s Mansfield Haugh.
Hawick’s mini rugby section has been running for more than seven years and has more than 126 boys and girls between Primary 3-7 learning the game and building the next generation of Greens players.
Hawick Minis organiser and chairman John Tait said: “This is our seventh year of the tournament and it has been a huge success every year.
“The Primary 6 and 7 games will kick off at 10.30am, with the remaining Primary 3, 4 and 5s starting at 11am. The Bill McLaren Foundation has presented us with a trophy, which will be awarded to the team who best embodies the spirit of the game, while Edinburgh Rugby professional, Rory Sutherland, will be on hand to present the winning teams with their medals.
“There will also be an unveiling of the new Robbie Dyes strip, along with the usual food and entertainment.”
