Robson is relishing the challenge at Harlequins

Hawick Harlequins have appointed Gary Robson as the club’s new head coach.

Robson replaces Timmy Pretswell, who departed at the end of a disappointing 2013/2014 season which saw Quins finish bottom of RBS East Division One.

Speaking to the Hawick News, Robson, the former PSA coach, said: “I’m really looking forward to taking on the challenge and I think the only way is up for this club.

“I’ve only had one training session with the boys so far but from what I’ve seen I think we’ve got a good mix of youth and experience and I’m pretty optimistic about our league chances this year.”

Robson continued: “Some of the boys we have are young and full of potential and my main aim as coach is to basically give them as much guidance as I can and help bring this club forward.”

Quins president Drew Turnbull added: “We’re very grateful to Gary for taking on this role and we’re confident that he can turn the club around after a difficult time last season.”
