RUNNING starlet Louise Mercer has been called up to run for Scotland next month.
The 15-year-old will be representing her country at a Celtic Nations competition in Ireland on February 6.
She said: “I’m really pleased to be selected and I’m really looking forward to the event.”
Louise’s selection comes following another successful weekend when she finished second at the East District Championships in Livingston.
The fourth year high school pupil battled hard against the conditions, but for the second successive week was just pipped at the post by East District team-mate Kathryn Gillespie.
She said: “It was hard conditions for running because there was heavy rain which made the course very boggy.
“The race itself was very close with myself and Kathryn close to the front and beside each other all the way round, but near the end we broke away from the other competitors.
“I led onto the home straight but she got me again with her sprint finish. But I was really pleased to come second as I didn’t expect to do that well and it was a hard race.”
