Quins get bonus but it’s not all plain sailing

ALTHOUGH securing a bonus point, the Quins made hard work of it in their victory against Broughton.

They took the lead after some scrappy play by both sides resulted in Nicki Laidlaw scoring in the corner.

The opening try had a settling effect on the Baker Street men and from the restart, Stefan Laidlaw gathered, before passing to Scott Peffers, who was running into the line at pace and burst through for the try which he then converted himself.

Peffers was soon back in the thick of the action, contributing another try and conversion following a kick and chase to the line.

Now playing flowing rugby, the Quins let matters slip and Broughton opened their account with a try in the corner from a ruck.

Back on the front foot, the hosts struck again through Ger Grierson, only for the visitors to cross the Quins line again with a converted try to make the half-time score 24-12 in the Hawick side’s favour.

Broughton wasted no time in cutting the deficit further with another converted score which saw alarm bells ringing among the Quins support.

However, the Teries then relieved the pressure somewhat with a try by centre Greg Anderson and a Peffers conversion.

The Quins were back in the groove and next to get on the scoresheet was Dale Johnstone who scampered 40 metres up the touchline for the score.

Still in the ascendancy, the Quins’ last score involved both backs and forwards and was finished off by Peffers who also added the conversion for a personal tally of 23 points.
