Under the wing of the new managerial team of Mike Atai, Barry Campbell and Dean Shanks, Hawick Royal Albert are holding an open training session at Albert Park today, which begins at 10.30am.
Members of last season’s squad, as well as new faces – including Hawick players – will be attending, and any local footballers would be welcomed.
Recently-appointed manager Atai said: “It’s my first managerial job in football and I am looking forward to the challenge. I have been around football for a while, know the game and I am well aware of the difficulties that lie ahead.
I have a good team beside me in Barry Campbell and Dean Shanks, and it’s our job to lift the profile of Hawick Royal Albert and raise standards.
“Hawick have been the whipping boys in the East of Scotland league for quite a while. As far as I am concerned, though, it’s a chapter that is in the past. I am looking to get a team on the park that is fit and organised, as that’s a step in the right direction.
“On my first visit to Hawick I liked the feel of the ground as it has a stand with great facilities. Hawick has a good set-up and, I think, it’s something of a sleeping giant”.
Besides being under new management, the Albert are going to be involved in a new league set up for the forthcoming season as following a vote by the clubs, the two divisions have been merged into one league of 16 sides.
