Border Amateur ‘B’ Division
A superb four-goal salvo from Kevin Strathdee and a quick-fire double from Mikey Moir helped United to their best result of the season.
The Hawick outfit started strongly and took the lead when Kevin Strathdee broke free before knocking the ball beyond the Stow keeper. Strathdee doubled his tally soon after when a long clearance from Dean Fry evaded the Stow defence and the live wire striker finished easily.
United started to sit back slightly and Stow pulled a goal back. Slick passing in midfield resulting in a chance for Hewitson who scored with a shot from inside the box. The Tangerines hit back with a swift response when, once again, Strathdee broke the Stow offside trap and finished with aplomb.
The hosts started the second half well and the prolific Strathdee made it 4-1 with another break and excellent finish. Again United sat back and were lucky not to concede after confusion between David Strathdee and goalkeeper Kevan Miller resulted in the latter having to clear the ball from his own goal line. Stow did score next, however, when a deep cross to the back post was missed by the Hawick defence and the lurking Hewitson notched his second with a shot at the near post.
Back came the home team and Kevin Patterson’s lob fell the wrong side of the post. United made it five soon afterwards, though, when unmarked substitute Moir nodded in a corner from Kevin Strathdee. The final goal was again claimed by Moir, who got the faintest of touches on Fry’s deep free kick.
United had a five-star performer in Kevin Strathdee, while Liam Lavery and Thomas Scott showed up well in another encouraging win.
